Richard J. Hertzler Sr.

Richard J. “Rick” Hertzler Sr., 68 of Houston died Tuesday-January 12, 2016 in his home following a courageous battle with lung cancer.  He was born January 10, 1948 in Oakdale Pa. the son of the late William and Ellen Allen Hertzler.  Mr. Hertzler was Presbyterian by faith and worked as a printer for Interform Corporation for over 30 years.  He graduated from South Fayette High School in 1967.  Mr. Hertzler was a member of the SNPJ in Sygan.  He enjoyed watching the Steelers play, working on cars and loved spending time with his family.  Mr. Hertzler especially enjoyed the time that he spent with his grandchildren. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart. 

On August 28, 1971 he married Shirley M. Ervin Hertzler of Houston who survives.  Also surviving is one son; Rick J. (Jackie) Hertzler Jr. of Carnegie, two daughters; April E. (Harry) Edkins of Canonsburg and Annette S. (Jamie Behanna) Fauth of Houston, two brothers; William (Eleanor) Hertzler Jr. and David (Jessie) Hertzler, one sister; Nancy (John) Lober, seven grandchildren; Elizabeth, Logan, Aydan, Riley, Tanner, Hope and Jackson, two sisters in law; Betty Curtis and Vila Hertzler.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his mother and father, Mr. Hertzler was preceded in death by two brothers; Ronald and Dennis Hertzler.

Friends will be received on Thursday-January 14, 2016 from 2 P.M. until 7 P.M. the hour of a funeral service in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave. Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Supervisor/Director, Susan Falvo Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director.  Interment will be held at 2:00P.M. on Friday-January 15, 2016 at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville Pa.  Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 and the United States Army.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 331 South Main St. Washington Pa. 15301.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.WarcoFalvoFuneralHome.com.
