Jerome Thomas Cypher

On Sunday, September 3, 2023, Jerome “Jerry” Thomas Cypher, born September 18, 1957, was called to Heaven, passing over peacefully surrounded by his family.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ventura Cypher; a son, Jordan (Christie) Cypher; two grandchildren, Christian and Gianna; two sisters, Cyndi and Theresa; a brother, Thomas (Janet) Cypher; two brothers-in-law, Robert and David Ventura.  Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Brendan and Jerad and by his parents, Thomas “Tucker” and Toni “Nunnie” Cypher.

Jerry had often said, “I am among all things blessed” and he spoke and lived that truth.  He had a beautiful marriage of 40 years to his wife that he deeply loved, three sons that he absolutely adored, and one of his biggest and greatest joys was being “Papa” to his grandchildren.

Growing up, and through his entire lifetime, he always spoke about how proud he was to be a Norwood Italian.  He remained friends with his childhood buddies throughout his entire lifetime.  Jerry was an achieved athlete at Bishop Canevin High School and Waynesburg University.  He carried his passion for athletics into a coaching career that he often described as his ministry.  In the late 70s, he established a Pittsburgh Technical Trade basketball league, was blessed to have the opportunity to coach his three sons from 1st grade through high school at JFK Catholic School (Immaculate Conception Parish) and Chartiers-Houston High School.  Jerry also ran and coached multiple basketball camps. He established the Washington Wolfpack AAU basketball team and coached Special Olympics.  Jerry was a published author of “Dare to Soar” that reflected his life’s purpose of inspiring others.

In 1984, he established a highly successful employment “talent acquisition” agency that operated for over 20 years.  Jerry then transitioned to a family-centered business brokerage, “The Cypher Group”.  As additional endeavors, with the support of his wife, they had many real estate investments including the development of the Villas of California and reestablishing Kennedy Township Golf and Recreation Center.
