Paul J. Wolf, Jr.
/It is with the deepest sadness and the fondest memories that we announce the passing of Paul J. Wolf Jr., famously known as “Bighead,” and most affectionately as “Pap.” He was born on July 15, 1953, in Washington, PA, and at the age of 70, was unexpectedly called to his final resting place on Monday, September 25, 2023. Surviving to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Diana Wolf; his daughter, Amanda (Paul) Becker; his son, Paul G. (Rebecca) Wolf; his grandchildren, Adelyn and Dean Wolf, and step-grandchildren, Tyler and McKenzie Becker; one sister, Lisa (Chris) Quinn; one aunt, Ann Siebel; close cousins, Wayne (Pam) Hunt and Dorian (Karen) Seibel. Many additional cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. Sr. and Mary Catherine Wolf, and by his brother, Mark S. Wolf.
Paul graduated from Trinity High School in 1971. He began working for Weber National Store while he was still in high school but spent most of his career in the steel industry, powering through the ranks to become Melt Shop Foreman for Washington Steel/Allegheny Ludlum, where he was a wealth of knowledge and an expert in his field. He valued working for a living, as being a provider for his family to ensure they always had what they needed was a top priority. In his retirement, he focused on spending quality time with his family, planning and hosting Sunday dinners and holiday parties, and most important to him, taking on the job as “Pap.” He did not take this responsibility lightly, though it came with endless smiles and laughter, as he was the Magic School Bus chauffeur, dance party DJ, Santa’s biggest helper, movie buddy, a listening ear, and often a best friend.
In his younger years, Paul was known for his cool cars and could even be spotted riding his dirt bike. He devoted many hours serving the community as a member of the North Franklin Volunteer Fire Company, including in the role of Captain. He enjoyed deer hunting, especially the quality time spent at camp in St. Mary’s, PA, and he found great joy in attending airshows with family and friends. More recently, you could find him in his self-proclaimed command center monitoring the scanner or watching Bond-A-Thon with his faithful feline companion, on the back patio grilling enough food to feed Patton’s 3rd Army or watching planes at the local airport. He was an aviation, military, and firearms enthusiast. He was the neighborhood lawn care expert, and critic, as he was a man of very strong convictions that he liked to share. If you ever wanted advice, Paul had an answer, and his stories and life lessons continue to live on.
Together with his beloved wife of 46 years, Paul and Diana built a beautiful life. His legacy is his selfless devotion to his family, and we will honor it each and every day.
Honoring Paul’s wishes, in lieu of traditional services, a Celebration of Life is planned for family and friends on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 12pm - 4pm, at the North Franklin Volunteer Fire Company Social Hall (565 Sylvan Drive, Washington, PA 15301). A memorial service will occur within the first hour, followed by a Celebration of Life for The Man, The Myth, The Legend: Paul Wolf. If you wish to make a memorial contribution in his name, the family suggests the Washington Area Humane Society, the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
Paul’s family would like to express gratitude to all of the emergency responders and the staff of the Washington Hospital ER for their hard work and compassion.
