Regis William Stinely
/Regis William Stinely was born on October 2, 1929 in Johnston, PA. Regis was the fifth of six children of Patrick and Mary (née Sutton) Stinely.
His parents strongly encouraged academic excellence, leading to numerous grants and scholarships to attend the University of Pittsburgh.
After completing his degree in zoology, Regis gained admission to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He then started his pathology residency at West Penn Hospital.
While finishing his medical training, Regis met Patricia Dushaw, the love of his life. During their 65 years of marriage, Regis and Patricia welcomed five children: Nancy Stinely (Robin Berman), Michael Stinely (Kathy Bubert), Susan Eles (Gus Eles), Jennifer Stinely, and James Stinely. Their extended family also includes five grandchildren: Conor Eles, Neal Eles, James Eles, Patrick Stinely, and Liam Stinely.
Dr. Stinely had enlisted in the Navy while finishing his residency, and practiced clinical pathology at the Oakland Naval Hospital. Following that, he was stationed in Guam for 3 years, allowing for extensive travel through East Asia.
After his tenure in the Navy, Regis and family returned stateside, residing in Washington, PA. Dr. Stinely practiced pathology at Washington Hospital for over 40 years.
His many interests and hobbies included photography, trap shooting, ham radio (MARS; callsign: NZ3E), history, good beer, and bad jokes. He especially enjoyed his time spent teaching histology during the intercession of Washington and Jefferson College and West Virginia University School of Medicine.
As the self-appointed President of the “Beau Street Betterment League”, Regis presided over frequent meetings during backyard happy hour at his home. Duties included telling grand stories and questionable jokes while consuming Guinness and “pogey bait”. All were welcomed.
Regis died unexpectedly on June 1, 2022. He will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P.M. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Supervisor/Director, Holly Renay Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Park N. Crosier, Director. A prayer service will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 W. Chestnut St. Washington with the Rev. George Chortos as celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either St. James Parish, 119 W.
