Thomas Richard Shrontz aka “Dick” or “Buggsy”, 81 of Washington died Wednesday-September 21, 2016 at the Washington Hospital after an 18 month battle with cancer. Mr. Shrontz was born November 14, 1934 in Follansbee, West Virginia the son of the late Thomas & Olive Williams Shrontz.

His family moved to Wolfdale when he was in the 4th grade. That is where he got the nickname “Buggsy”. Dick attended Laboratory and Wolfdale grade schools. He was a 1953 graduate of Trinity High School. While at Trinity he played drums in the band. At age 12 he began delivering papers for 6 years. He began working at Tygart Valley his senior year of high school and worked there for 8 years. Dick bought his first new 1952 Ford Tractor at age 16. He plowed gardens for customers and started doing landscaping of yards and on then moved on to Backhoe service. He had been in business since 1952, as the owner of Richard Shrontz, Inc.

He was a faithful member of Laboratory Presbyterian Church. He had been a Trustee and played on the church Dartball Team.

Mr. Shrontz served in the United States Army Reserves for 6 years with the 630th. Transportation Company. He was called to active duty in Fort Bragg, North Carolina for 10 months. Mr. Shrontz was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, enjoyed mowing grass, tractors and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren especially when they could be riding with him on his tractors. He always looked forward to getting together with his family for the Shrontz Family Reunion. Mr. Shrontz was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge # 776 and the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175.

On September 15, 1956 he married Frances A. Salat Shrontz who survives. The couple had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children; a son; Richard A. “Rick” (Colleen) Shrontz of Washington and a daughter; Vicki L. Shrontz of Rochester, New York, a brother; William “Bill” (Sandy) Shrontz of Washington, 3 sisters; Virginia “Ginny” Coffield of Washington, Zeta Shrontz of Washington & Debbie Burt of Houston, three grandchildren; Colton Shrontz, Garrett Shrontz & Sarah Shrontz. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends will be received on Thursday-September 22, 2016 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and on Friday-September 23, 2016 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc. Wilson at E. Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A funeral service will be held on Saturday-September 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Donna Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 and the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Laboratory Presbyterian Church, 23 Manse Street, Washington, Pa. 15301.
