John Keenan Whalen
/John Keenan Whalen age 50, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 6, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.
John was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Dr. Thomas and the late Margaret (Peg) Whalen. He grew up in Canonsburg, PA and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and Penn State University. He married his loving and dedicated wife, Deidra and lived in Eighty Four, PA where they had two children, Keenan and Leigh. They moved in 2006 to Indian Trail, NC, where they still reside. John’s occupation was Landscape Design but his passions in life were family and coaching, “preparing the next generation”. He believed in living his life for God and service to others.
In addition to his wife, Deidra, and children, Keenan & Leigh, he is survived by his father Thomas J. Whalen, MD (Alice Montgomery Whalen), his sisters, Peg Kunkel (William Kunkel, Jr.), Sherry Brozinski (fiance’ Tom Raineri), brothers, Thomas and Mark Whalen, stepbrothers, Bradley and Douglas Montgomery, his niece, Abigail Whalen, nephews, Brian and Kyle Omslaer, Thomas (TJ) Whalen and Alex Brozinski, as well as Aunt Kathleen (loving caregiver) and Uncle Frank Larimer, cousins, Frank & Michael Larimer, and several aunts, uncles and cousins in Philadelphia.
Friends will be received on Thursday-November 12, 2015 from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc. Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Supervisor/Director, Susan Falvo Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday-November 13, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 119 West Chestnut St., Washington. Burial will be private.
