Mary Helen Stout Dunham
/Mary Helen Stout Dunham, 99 of Washington formerly of East Finley Township, Claysville died Tuesday-January 19, 2016 at the Transitions Health Care, Washington. She was born October 1, 1916 in East Finley Township the daughter of the late Thomas B. and Grace O. Barnhart Stout. Mrs. Dunham wasa member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Aide Society and the Chancel Choir. For many years she was a teacher in a one room school house in East Finley Twp. She later was employed as a case worker at the Department of Public Assistance.
Mrs. Dunham lived on a farm for much of her life. She graduated from Claysville High School in 1934. She received her teachingcertificate from California State Teachers College in 1937. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in West Alexander and also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Mrs. Dunham enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and conversations with her friends and family. She was a lovely person and was the oldest survivor of six siblings. She lived by her deepest values, “Love of God”, “Love of My Children & Husband”, and “Love of a Country Where We Can Be Free.”
On September 13, 1945 she married John Earl Dunham who died July 28, 1990. Surviving is a son; David S. (Carol) Dunham of Merced, California, a daughter; Priscilla Anne Bradburn of Washington, 2 grandchildren; Eric Michael (Ann Folkins) Dunham of Stanford, California, Brian Matthew Dunham of San Francisco, California, 2 great grandchildren; Andrew Daniel Dunham & Julia Katherine Dunham of Stanford, California. Many nieces & nephews and grand-nieces & grand-nephews also survive.
Mrs. Dunham was preceded in death by a daughter; Joyce Elaine Dunham, two brothers; William B. Stout & Norman Stout, four sisters; Martha Derrow, Dorothy Babson, Calore Wonsettler & Pearl Stout.
Friends will be received on Friday-January 22, 2016 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc. Wilson at E. Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A funeral service will be held on Saturday- January 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Susan Vande Kappelle officiating. Burial will follow in West Alexander Cemetery.
