Florence D. Stanek
/Florence D. Stanek, 92, lovingly known as “Tootsie,” of Washington, PA, and formerly of Ashley, PA, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Hanover Township on September 30, 1931, to the late Michael and Mary Malinchak. Tootsie was the devoted wife of Frank Stanek for an incredible 72 years.
She was a member of the graduating class of 1949 at Hanover Memorial High School, and later graduated from Empire Beauty School. She and her husband owned and operated Frank’s Pizza Parlor in Ashley for 40 years, becoming beloved fixtures in their community.
Tootsie ran the Ashley Little League for many years, coordinated bus trips for her community members to travel to New York City to enjoy Broadway shows, and had a household stand at the annual fundraiser at the Holy Rosary Church Bazaar. Toots loved Christmas, game shows, playing cards with Frank, and decades of vacations to ride the tramcar in Wildwood, New Jersey. Most importantly, Tootsie loved her family, of which she had proudly been the matriarch for the last twenty years.
Florence is survived by her loving husband, Frank Stanek Sr.; her four children, son, Michael Stanek Sr. and wife, Cindy; daughter, Sharon Coben and husband, Jeff; son, Frank Stanek Jr. and wife, Janet; and daughter, Shelby Maskarinec and husband, Bruce. She is also survived by her three sisters, Ann Marie Hurst, Mary Sinay, and Patricia Magda; eight grandchildren, Michael Stanek Jr., Joseph Stanek, Lauren Dye (Patrick), Michelle Coben, Amelia Hoover (Austin), Ellie Stanek, Jennifer Fritch (Tyler), and Sarah Maskarinec; two great-grandchildren, Jace and Mia Dye; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mary Malinchak.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at E. Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Holly Renay Warco, Director. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 9:00 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, St. Oscar Romero Parish, 300 Pike Street Meadowlands, PA 15347 with the Rev. Thomas L. Gillespie as Celebrant. Interment will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, PA at 11:00 A.M.
