Matilda Jeanne Palli Aloia

Matilda Jeanne “Tillie” Aloia, age 89, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday-August 2, 2021, with her loving family by her side. She was born July 17, 1932 in Washington, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Guido and Mary DeStefano Palli.

Matilda was a 1950 graduate and valedictorian of Washington High School. One of Matilda’s first jobs was at the family-owned and operated Palli Corner Grocery Store on East Maiden Street in Washington, where neighborhood children would come for their penny candy. After graduation, Matilda was employed by Kurtz Monument, where she met her loving husband, Albert Aloia. Other places of her employment included Trinity Area High School and the First National Bank.

Albert and Matilda were married on October 14, 1953 and celebrated 53 years of marriage. They raised two children, Albert and David, and built their family home in Gabby Heights in North Franklin Township, where Matilda happily lived for 59 years. Many fond family memories were made there over the years. She enjoyed making her “famous” chocolate chip cookies and Italian meatballs for her family. Matilda was proud of her Italian heritage and was a past member of the Order Italian Sons and Daughters of America Vittoria Lodge No. 76.

Being a lifelong member of the former Immaculate Conception Church (now known as St. James Parish), Matilda was a devout Catholic who prayed her rosary daily. She was an avid reader and loved nothing more than being in the fresh air with a good book. Matilda had been a resident at Presbyterian Senior Care, Southminster Place in Washington for 8 years.

Matilda is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, Albert A. (Janet) Aloia of McMurray, PA and David K. (Denise) Aloia of Washington, PA; grandchildren, Kent (Esther) Aloia of Bethel Park, PA, Julie (Joshua) Pace of Cranberry Township, PA, Kali (Seth) Alrutz of Canonsburg, PA, Mackenzie Aloia of Charlotte, NC, and Madison Aloia of Washington, PA; great-grandchildren, Brielle and Brayden Pace, Elena, Preston, and Luca Aloia; a brother, Joseph Palli of Belle Vernon, PA; a sister, Nancy (Michael) Bombara of Cary, NC; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death include her parents, Guido and Mary Palli; her husband, Albert, who passed away in 2006.; a brother, Richard Palli; a sister-in-law, Martha Palli and sister-in-law Helen Palli.

Friends will be received from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P.M. on Friday-August 6, 2021 in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Supervisor/Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Park N. Crosier, Director. A prayer service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday-August 7, 2021 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 W. Chestnut St. Washington with the Rev. John Lynam as celebrant.
