Fred Anthony Sargent

Fred Anthony Sargent passed away on Thursday-June 24, 2021 at the age of 91.  He began his life on December 10, 1929 along with his twin brother, Vincent Anthony. He was the fifth of seven children born to Ralph Anthony Sargent and Mary Carlet Sargent.

Fred attended Fifth Ward and Washington High School from which he graduated in 1947.  While there he participated in football, basketball and baseball.  He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Loraine Adams on February 22, 1951.  It was a very successful marriage that lasted 69 years until Peggy’s death in 2019 at age 88.  The marriage produced three daughters, twins, Sydney and Denise born in 1951 and Stacey born in 1957.  Fred loved all of his “girls” and was equally loved in return.  He was a very dedicated father always there to help, encourage and drive.

Fred started working at age 14 at the Foster Dairy and later worked for Country Belle Dairy, McWreath’s Dairy, Jessop Steel and retired from Consol Energy where he was recognized for 15 years of service.

Fred enjoyed vacationing with his family on summer trips to the shore and historical sites.  In retirement, he and Peggy went on a cruise of the Mediterranean where he especially enjoyed visiting Italy.  He often visited his daughters at their homes in California, Idaho and Florida.  But most of all, Fred enjoyed his life-long home of Washington, Pa. and spending time with his large extended family.  He was a life-long fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his father, Ralph; his mother, Mary; his aunt, Helen; his sisters, Elvira Perry (Sam), Anita Cancelmi (Joe), Eleanor Cromp (Tom) and brother, Ralph Sargent (Rose Marie) as well as his brother-in-law, Tom Milholan.

He is survived by his daughters, Sydney Spencer (Steve), Denise Falcone (Mark) and Stacey Sargent (Gary Auslander); his grandson, Dane Spencer (Jasmine Furnish) and granddaughters, Amy Cisneros (Roger) and Deidre Spencer (Chris Stroud); his great granddaughters, Dylan and Scout Spencer, Reagan and Sloane Cisneros and Lila and Emilia Stroud; his twin brother, Vincent Sargent (Audrey) and sister, Elaine Milholan as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

Fred lived life quietly. He was kind, gentle, hard-working, intelligent and humorous all of which will be greatly missed.  His family knew he was special and will hold him in their hearts forever.

His family would like to thank all those who helped him survive the pandemic while they could not travel.  You know who you are and we will be forever indebted to you for your love and kindness.
