Florence Shankovich Raymond
/Florence Shankovich Raymond, 95, formerly of South Strabane Township, passed peacefully on May 28, 2021 with her loving family beside her. She was born October 1, 1925, the eighth of nine children, to Antoni and Zofia Kedzoir Shankovich. Florence graduated from Trinity High School in 1943. On June 27, 1948 she married Robert J. Raymond with whom she enjoyed forty-seven years of marriage.
Florence was employed by Sears, Roebuck, and Company for twenty-six years where she was the Credit Manager and the Personnel Manager. She found her work to be very rewarding and earned many awards. She was a member of the Washington Hospital Auxiliary, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and she served as the Republican Majority Leader of her voting precinct. She treasured her Catholic faith and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Florence was a wonderful homemaker, making a lovely home for her family. She was an excellent cook and baker. Sunday dinners were a weekly treat for her family. She enjoyed decorating, gardening, traveling, the symphony, dancing to big band tunes with her husband, and attending her daughters’ and grandsons’ concerts and sports activities. She was an avid Steelers and Penguins fan. She also loved lunch and shopping dates with her daughters and friends. Though she had many interests, it was her faith and family that were most important to her. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Susan (Richard) Cornell of Washington and Robin (Dr. Mark) Trombetta of Upper St. Clair, as well as three grandsons whom she loved dearly, Matthew Cornell, Stephen (Karlie) Trombetta, and David Trombetta. Also surviving is her brother, Dr. Robert Shankovich of Lower Burrell, Pa. as well as nine nieces and five nephews. In addition to her husband, Robert, Florence was preceded in death by her siblings, Benjamin Shankovich, Mary Rometo, Estelle Evans Manes, Josephine Olshak, Helen Maul, Stanley Shankovich, and Walter Shankovich.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Warco Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave. Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Supervisor/Director, Susan Falvo Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director. A prayer service will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 9 AM in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 West Chestnut Street Washington.
