Julie Ann Malmgren Sulkowski

An inspiration. A role model. A warrior. A mother. A wife. A daughter. A sister. A friend. A niece. A cousin. An aunt. An angel.

No person has ever fought harder with such grace. According to you who knew her:  She was “an amazing person” with “amazing strength and faith.” “She was the strongest person you’ve ever known.” She was a “one in a million” person, “courageous and determined with love of her family,” who “fought her silent battle with dignity.”  She was “kind.” She was “thoughtful.” She was “graceful.” She was a “beautiful soul,” and you “were proud to call Julie your friend.” You “will never stop fighting for more when it comes to breast cancer.” She was a “teacher of faith and fortitude.” You “adored her and admired her” for her “bravery.” You “absolutely loved Julie and will forever remember her kindness and her love of her family.” As fellow survivors, “she inspired you every day.” She was “beautiful inside and out” with that “radiant smile.” A “sweet, loving, and tough fighter,” she was “a blessing to so many.”

Julie grew up in South Strabane Township and graduated from Trinity High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Pittsburgh, and she was proud of her work as a Clinical Dietitian for many years at Monongahela Valley Hospital. Julie loved her family. She loved her friends. She loved her pets. She loved vacations, especially the OBX, cruises, and Disney. Most of all, she was a very happy camper.

Surviving are her husband, Donald, her son, Benjamin, her parents, Ronald & Joann Malmgren, and her sister, Kristine (Yancy) Yeater, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends whose words are listed in the above quotations.

Julie won against cancer. We often prayed for a miracle…she was the miracle. She fought for 18 years. She defied the odds time and time again. She was Ron and Joann’s legendary daughter for 45 years. She was Ben’s adoring mother for 10 years. She was Donald’s loving wife for 22 years. Everyone can take a lesson from Julie. Never give up, keep fighting, and trust in God. Don’t stop dreaming. Keep living life. She may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. Live like Julie.
