Nyla Dolores Rice

Nyla Dolores Rice, 87 of Washington passed away peacefully on Saturday-October 2, 2021 in the Washington Hospital.  She was born November 5, 1933 in Washington PA the daughter of the late John Henry and Nyla Frances Paul Taylor.  Mrs. Rice was a graduate of Trinity High School and was a homemaker for most of her life.  She was Methodist by faith.  Mrs. Rice along with her late husband was the owner of the Shady Ladies Softball Team.  She was a big Pittsburgh Pirates fan and enjoyed playing bingo.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.

On June 14, 1953 she married Vernon E. Rice Sr. who died November 27, 1988.  Surviving are three daughters, Diana Toland of North Carolina, Kris Rice of Claysville and Paula (James) Taggart of Washington; a brother, Donald (Jean) Taylor; a sister, JoAnne Ayres and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by a son, Vernon E. Rice Jr.; four brothers, Leroy, John, Raymond and Paul Taylor; three sisters, Elsie Hale, Betty Clark and Rebecca Taylor who died in infancy and a son in law, Stanley Toland.
