Cathy Cimino Sonnet

Cathy Cimino Sonnet, 56 of North Strabane Township, Pa., died on Tuesday- January 24, 2017 at the Washington Hospital, Washington Pa., after an 8-year courageous battle with breast cancer.  She was born on January 1, 1961 in Washington, Pa., a daughter of Samuel Cimino, Jr. and Mary Lou (Bonus) Cimino, who survive her.  She is also survived by her beloved husband; David E. Sonnet, who she married on August 28, 1998, and daughter; Samantha Mara Sonnet, age 17.  Also surviving are her three sisters; Charisse “Sherry” (Fred) Badiali; Christy (Kent) Martin and Cindy (Michael) Namie, and five nephews; Fred Badiali, Michael Namie, Clay Martin, Brett Martin and Benjamin Leo and three nieces; Katie Lucas, Morgan Namie and Emma Leo.

Cathy graduated from Trinity High School and received her degree from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She was a talented artist and designer; artistic gifts that were passed on to her daughter Samantha. She was employed previously as a commercial artist producer/manager at companies such as Westinghouse, Alcoa and ANSYS before resigning to spend full time at home with her daughter. 

Cathy and her family attended Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, Pa. She enjoyed spending her time with her husband and daughter, taking annual trips to New York City to attend Broadway shows, and traveling to watch her daughter participate on her club volleyball travel teams as well as her many other school activities at Canon McMillan.  Cathy loved to spend time decorating her home and especially enjoyed going to lunch every weekday with her husband and best friend, Dave.  She also enjoyed her family’s traditional Sunday dinner at her parents’ home together with her sisters and nephews and niece. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday-January 28, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 119 West Chestnut Street, Washington, Pa. 15301.  Entombment will follow in the Washington Cemetery, 498 Park Avenue, Washington, Pa. 15301.  The public is welcome to attend both the Mass and Entombment.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave. Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Supervisor/Director, Susan Falvo Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either of Cathy’s favorite charities:  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Susan G.
