Thomas Wayne Woods
/Thomas Wayne Woods, nicknamed by his friends as “Robot” departed this life on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 5:24 P.M., after suffering a lengthy battle with his kidneys. He went to be with the Lord. He was born December 8,1958 in Washington, Pennsylvania, to the late Carter & Mildred Woods.
Mr. Woods graduated from Washington High School in 1977. After graduation he worked for Budd Bear and Ball Glass. Following in his father’s footsteps, in 1982 he enlisted in the United States Air Force spending 13 years and receiving an honorable discharge as an E5 Aircrew Life Support Craftsman, along with receiving many medals and Air Force Commendations. Prior to his retirement he joined the Mel Blount Youth Home as a Supervisor giving positive direction to young men, due to his declining health he then retired. A lifelong member of St. Paul A.M.E., Tom once served on the trustee board.
During his past marriage two lovely children were shared, Thomas Wayne Woods Jr. (Anna) of Canonsburg Pa., and Carter Woods, of Georgia; three grandchildren, Liliana Woods, Anthony Brown, and Avin Swindle.
Preceding him in death, was his older sister, Shelley Woods Armstrong and brother, Larry Hinkle Woods, that also suffered the same kidney illness.
Leaving to mourn is his sister, Carol Jean Lockett (Herbert); sister-in-law, Rose Woods; cousin, Frank Simmons of Washington DC; nephews, Jamal Brown, Larry Woods Jr., and Jaiden Lockett. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Family to the end, Brad Gordon, Darryl Grace, Lenane Mack and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, in the St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 16 Ridge Avenue, Washington, PA 15301. Pastor Lowell Wright will officiate. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, at the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
