George Robinson Jr.

George Robinson Jr., also known as "Coach," passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, in Washington, PA, at the age of 87.  He was a dedicated coach and mentor who was highly respected in his community.  George was born on August 26, 1935 to the late George Robinson, Sr. and the late Gladys Gentry.

He served in the United States Marine Corps, and his love for his country and community never wavered.  George was appointed to the Civil Service Commission of Washington and served for 30 years.

He was an accomplished man and had a successful career as the Maintenance Director for the Washington County Housing Authority.  George also served as a Deacon at Friendship Baptist Church, where he worshipped and sang with the Men of Friendship Choir.

George had a passion for sports.  He officiated at the Brownson House of Washington for twenty years and served as the Youth Commissioner for ASA of PA, once selected as Commissioner of the year.  He was an assistant coach for Wash High and Canon Mac Football and played and coached for the Washington Generals Semi-Pro football team.  George was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame, Washington-Greene County Hall of Fame, and Semi-Pro Hall of Fame that you can see in the Heinz History Museum.

George will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he served.  A special thanks to his brothers from the heart, Guy Montecalvo and James Ward.

He is survived by his stepson, Derrick Brent (Heather); sisters, Prestine Robinson, Carol Lockett, Linda Perry, Terri Adams, Donna Vaughn, Diane Taylor (Jerry), Kimberly Robinson, and Josephine Blanchard and a brother, William Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Robinson; daughter, Rae Lowe born to the late Arvadella Robinson; stepmother, June Robinson; brothers, Dwight Robinson, Robert Harris, Milton Harris and a sister, Gladys McBride.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Holly Renay Warco, Director, Park N. Crosier, Director.  Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. the hour of a funeral service in the Friendship Baptist Church, 17 E. Walnut St. Washington.  The Rev. Richard D. White Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Melvin D. Rippy will co-officiate.  Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.  Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 and the United States Marine Corps.  Condolences may be expressed at www.WarcoFalvoFuneralHome.com
