Franklin David Kuzy
/“Retired VA Dentist”
Dr. Franklin David Kuzy died Monday, February 14, 2022 in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care where he courageously fought non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was born November 23, 1943 in Washington, PA, the son of the late Frank and Ann Pahanish Kuzy of Wolfdale. He attended Wolfdale Grade School. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1961. He graduated from Washington and Jefferson College with a B.A. degree in Biology in 1965. He then went on to the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where he earned a DMD degree in 1969. He served honorably as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corps from 1969-1971, stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
After his Army service, Dr. Kuzy went on the staff of the VA Medical Center of Pittsburgh University Drive in 1971. As a staff dentist he practiced most types of dentistry, but mainly restorative, endodontic and prosthodontics. He took solemn satisfaction that he was able to detect several oral malignancies that had successful outcomes during his practice there. Dr. Kuzy achieved the status of Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. He was also a lifetime member of the American Dental Association.
He was a long-time member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Canonsburg and more recently was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington, PA. On July 15, 1989 he married the love of his life, Dr. Karen Sue Hallam. They took great pleasure in traveling to foreign shores, especially by ocean cruises. Some of their favorite cruises took them to Scandinavia, Russia, the British Isles, Iceland, the Mediterranean countries including the Holy Land and Egypt and also Antarctica, Australia, New Zealand, India and the Far East.
Dr. Kuzy is survived by his wife, Karen Sue, and a sister, Elaine Petach of Rye, New York and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Marian Bartusiak and Marjorie Kincel Dorchak, and a nephew, Peter Petach. His two nephews are Dr. Robert (Susan) Bartusiak and Dr. Barry (Kristi) Bartusiak, both of Upper St. Clair, and a niece, Ann Marie Petach (Jeffrey Janowicz) of Rye, New York. He is also survived by great nephews, Andrew and Brady Bartusiak and Alex Janowicz. Great nieces are Jenna and Alexa Bartusiak, Taylor and Madison Bartusiak, and Maggie Janowicz. His great-great nephew is Jace Feldmeier.
At the request of the deceased there will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Friday-February 18, 2022 in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 W. Chestnut St. Washington with the Rev. George Chortos as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray, PA. Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 and the United States Army.
