Josephine Urso

Mrs. Josephine Urso passed on peacefully to be with her Lord on January 17, 2021 in Washington, Pennsylvania.  As the youngest of four sisters, Josephine got the nickname Dolly at a young age.

Dolly was a thoroughly devoted wife and mother.  She is survived by her son Richard, his wife Susanne, and their children and grandchildren in New Jersey.  Her husband Lou passed in 2008 after which she lived in the long time family home on Allison Avenue in Washington.  She spent her last seven years at home in the Presbyterian Senior Care facility on South Main Street in Washington.

She was close to her sisters throughout her entire life.  Their children played together frequently and the families would often get together at each others’ homes for what seemed like little vacations in the summer.  Throughout her life her home was totally open and inviting to all of us.  In this wonderful extended family all the kids felt Aunt Dolly was their favorite aunt.  Perhaps because she made each one feel like we were her favorite niece or nephew.

Later in life, Dolly relied on her sisters to pull her through a number of health issues.  Her sisters all predeceased her and in her last few years of life, Aunt Dolly was like a mom to several of their now adult children.  Her passing is a major milestone to all of these families.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and always enjoyed the visits of the priests and laypeople.  She was a woman of strong faith in the Lord and later in life would share her faith with others.

The family wants to express their deepest appreciation to Presbyterian Senior Care, especially to Mabel, Michelle and countless compassionate staff who provided loving care and comfort to her in her final years.

For all her family and friends a light went out in their lives when she passed on.  She leaves a legacy of goodness, generosity and a gentle love that never wavered.

Lucky is the one who has a person in his or her life who gives so much love that you are forever changed because of it.  This was Josephine Urso.

The Apostle Paul’s words are very fitting as she leaves this world a better place:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

2 Timothy 4:7-8
