Rose Luongo, 100, of Washington, PA passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019. She was born in Marianna, PA, May 7, 1918, the daughter of George and Agnes Koss. She was the wife of the late John Luongo and mother to the late Dr. Daniel (Sandra) Luongo.

She will be remembered for her extraordinary service to family, friends, and community. She was active in politics since she was 28 years old. During her lifetime of political service, she was President of Washington City Council of Republican Women, President of County Council of Republican Women, Director/ Director Emeritus of PA Council of Republican Women Southwestern PA District, and member of the Vesta Johnson GOP Council. Locally, she served as the Judge of Elections and Secretary of the City Planning Commission for Washington.

She voted in every election since she was 21 and was honored in 2012 by the Washington County Republican Committee for this impeccable record. She was the 2012 Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Washington County Republican Party and was appointed Director Emeritus of the Federation of Republican Women of Pennsylvania for her long service.

She was most recently honored at her 100th birthday celebration for her work with the Washington County Republican Committee. She was presented with the Pennsylvania Senate Proclamation for her community service by State Sen. Camera Bartolotta, an acknowledgement from the Washington County Board of Commissioners by Commissioner Larry Maggi, and a letter of recognition from Gov. Tom Wolf.

She was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was active in the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters. She was an active member of the Italian American War Veterans Auxiliary Post 27 of Washington (Past President) and was a 70-year member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 175 (Past President).

She was an excellent and generous cook, contributing to the Parish of the Immaculate Conception’s first summer festival in 1952 and continuing for decades organizing and cooking for pierogi fund raisers, pancake breakfasts, and Lenten dinners. She also ran the Pony League concession starting in 1953 and even organized the cookie sales at Strabane Woods up until age 99.

She is survived by three granddaughters, Lisa Luongo, Sarah McCarroll, and Julie Luongo; three loving great grandchildren, Sheamus McCarroll, Tierney McCarroll, and Blaise McCarroll; and many beloved friends, nephews, and nieces, especially Lois Illar, a loving caretaker in her last years.

As an expression of sympathy, and in honor of her tremendous service to the community, donations may be made in her memory to any of the above organizations or memorial contributions to the ALS Association, in memory of her son Daniel; Cancer Association, in memory of her husband John; or the Alzheimer’s Association, in memory of her siblings.

Friends will be received on Sunday-January 27, 2019 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 9 P.M. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Supervisor/Director, Susan Falvo Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II,  Director.  The Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters will recite the Rosary at 3:30 P.M. on Sunday in the funeral home and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 175 will render a service at 7:30 P.M. on Sunday in the funeral home.  A departing prayer service will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Monday-January 28, 2019 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, Washington.  Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.  Condolences may be expressed at www.WarcoFalvoFuneralHome.com
