Dr. Eric M. Antila

Dr. Eric M. Antila, 87 of Washington passed away Saturday-July 25, 2015 at home after a brief illness. He was born October 8, 1927 in Weirton, West Virginia, the son of the late Jack & Sylvia Antila. 

Eric was a graduate of BethanyCollege, where he majored in Biology and was also a member of Beta Theta PI. He served in the United States Army for two years and then graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Dental School, followed by two years of graduate work in Orthodontics. He practiced in the Washington and Monongahela areas for 30 years, and for seven years served as an Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at the Dental School.

Eric was a long time member of First Lutheran Church, where for several years he taught the adult Bible study group. In recent years he had been an Associate Member of Nativity Lutheran Church in Palm Beach Garden, Florida. He also was active in the Monongahela Rotary Club and the Washington Camera Club. 

A lifelong athlete, Eric played four years of football and basketball in college then continued with squash, racquetball and volleyball. He was a member of Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville for 52 years. In 1965 he qualified to play in the Rotary International Golf Tournament at St. Andrews, Scotland. In 1992 he won the Pennsylvania State Golf Senior Amateur Championship, and in 1993 was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. For 22 years he was a member of the Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida and for the last 8 years he had been an active golfer at the Golf Club of Washington. 

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Diane Ringman Antila, sons; David (Ava) Antila of Oakland Hills, California, Marc Antila of Galloway, Ohio, & Greg Antila of Washington, daughter; Carol (Ron) Reed of Dayton, Nevada. Grandchildren include Jaret & Madison Reed and Addison Antila. 

Deceased are a grandson, Jay Antila and a brother Jack Antila.

Friends will be received on Thursday-July 30, 2015 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc. Wilson at E. Katherine Avenues, Washington, S.Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. TimothyWarco II, director. A memorial service will be held on Friday-July 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church, 92 West Walnut Street, Washington with Pastor Rob Grewe officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 92 W.
