Doctor Linda Louise Loar
/Doctor Linda Louise Loar, 77, of Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of Washington, PA, died Friday, December 20, 2024, in St. Clair Hospital. She was born on August 22, 1947, a daughter of the late William M. Loar and Pauline Guadagni Loar of Washington. Linda was a 1965 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, and she entered the Religious Sisters of Mercy at Mount Mercy College in Pittsburgh (Carlow College). She then graduated from Duquesne University with a Master’s Degree and then went onto the University of Pittsburgh where she earned a Doctorate in Education.
Linda worked as an educator and supervisor at numerous schools in the Pittsburgh area, including St. Agnes, Epipheny School, The Children’s Institute, and as a Professor at Chatam College. She had a special love for children who were vulnerable. Linda was a co-author of serval books that were for teaching, diagnosing, and supporting students with disabilities. She was a leader and volunteer of several organizations including, President of the PA Button Club, East End Community Thrift Store Volunteer, Intersection of McKeesport Outreach, Founder of the Girls Book Club, and Founder of the Annual Valentine Day Celebration. Linda participated in many civil rights marches and events in the Pittsburgh area. She had a heart for the underdog.
Linda is survived by her sister, Marsha B. Williams; a brother, William Loar; a brother-in-law, Gary Tonies; nieces, Kelly and Nicole Williams, Vanessa Manfredi, Mallory Mayer, Amber Barnhart, Lauren and Christy Tonies, and nephews, Adam and Jacob Williams, Ricky Loar, Ryan, Michael, and Justin Tonies. Several great nieces and great nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Loar Tonies; her longtime friend and civil rights activist, Father Jack O’Malley, and her two dogs, Tucker and Guiness.
Linda had lifelong friends in Pittsburgh, including Lorraine, Suzanne Cawley, Stella Smetanka, and Robert Zolkoski.
Per Linda’s request there will be no public visitation. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
