Dr. George Andrew Rembert, Jr.
/Dr. George Andrew Rembert Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the age of 80. He was born on June 21, 1944, in Houston, Texas, a son of the late George and Lucile Rembert. Dr. Rembert attended Lamar High School and was President of his senior class. He held a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University where he was a Phi Beta Kappa Scholar. Dr. Rembert went on to receive an honors degree from Oxford University where he attended as a Marshall scholar, and a PhD from Cornell University. He spent his life pursuing education. Dr. Rembert was a professor of western philosophy at Colgate University and established a student study aboard program to England and Scotland. He became Dean of Faculty at Lewis and Clark College and then become provost at St. Lawrence University. Dr. Rembert finally settled down in Washington, PA where he was the Vice President of academic affairs and Dean of W & J College. In this capacity he contributed to the Blue Print for Collaboration, which established a shared vision for Washington through a joint effort between Washington PA and Washington Jefferson College. Dr. Rembert became executive Vice President of the College in 2002 where he orchestrated the college’s strategic plan for growth. He was named interim President of W & J in 2004. Dr. Rembert retired as an emeritus professor of philosophy.
He is survived by wife, Bette, their three children, Kelly Charles (Jake), Stephen (Michelle), Alex (Katie), and his seven grandchildren.
