Paul Curry
Paul Curry, 82, of Voluntown Connecticut passed away on September 2, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born to James and Jane Curry on October 14, 1939, in Washington Pennsylvania. Paul graduated from Washington High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. Paul felt it a great privilege to work as a submariner.
In 1961, he married Carol A. Elder, the love of his life, who survives him. Paul also leaves behind his three children Paul David Curry, Jr. and his wife Carol Theisen; Diane Buttermore and her husband Steve; and Bill Curry and his wife Stacey. Paul was proud of his three children. Paul is also survived by six grandchildren, Alyssa, Grant, Julia, Anna, Danielle and Evie. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jane, and his brother James William Curry.
Submarines were a big part of Paul’s life. He served in them when he was fresh out of high school, as an engineer at Electric Boat, documenting the procedures on the first Trident Submarine, building and testing sonar arrays, he volunteered as a docent at the Nautilus Museum. Paul was a member of the SubVets, Old Salts, The After Battery, Holland Club and VFW. He would go down to the Thames River to welcome boats home.
He was active with the Egypt Shriners, as well as the Masons, serving as master in 1990. He was also a member of the Groton Sportsman Club where he was active in pheasant stocking, hunting and competing in retrieving trials with his Labrador Retrievers (Stormy, Misty, Gail and Sunny). He enjoyed traveling with Carol in their camper to meet up with friends. He also enjoyed working on things, whether it was cars, TVs, building a house or machining things in the basement.
There will be a private family ceremony at the family gravesite. In lieu of flowers consider donating to your favorite charity (or one of Paul’s Egypt Shriners, USS Nautilus Museum or Subvets USSVI Groton ).
