Retired Washington Pa Postmaster

Joseph A. Gisoni Jr. was called home to the Lord and met at the Gates of Heaven with his loving wife Frances on Monday, March 28, 2022.

He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish where he was baptized in 1929 the year the cornerstone was laid.  Mr. Gisoni worked for the United States Postal Service for 40 years starting as a sub-clerk in 1950, rose to Foreman in 1962, Asst. Superintendant of mail in 1966, Superintendant in 1970 and then appointed Postmaster in 1975.  A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175, was a past member of the Knights of Columbus as a 3rd Degree Knight, and was a long time member of the Rotary Club of Washington.  He was very proud that he and his three brothers served honorably in the military, in war, and all returned home safely.

He was born January 11, 1929 in Washington, a son of the late Joseph A. Gisoni and Geraldine Mascello Gisoni.

He is survived by his five sons, Joseph A. Gisoni of Washington, Gregory Gisoni (Melissa) of Murraysville PA, Chris Gisoni of Washington, Shawn Gisoni of Washington and Matthew Gisoni (Lana) of McMurray; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Michele, Maddie, Mackenzie, Devan, Jillian and Sydney and four great-grandchildren, Will, Dani, Liam and Quinn and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two sisters, Mary Hlipala and Rose Miles; three brothers, Albert Gisoni, Michael Gisoni and Alphonse Gisoni.

The most important thing to Joe was his family and a close second was his devotion to his faith in the Catholic Church.  As long as he was physically able, he attended Mass every day and kept the same candle burning below the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  A passionate fan of Notre Dame Football, he loved to work around the house, keeping his lawn weed free, working crossword puzzles, and in later years, sitting on the front porch in his rocking chair, attending the ‘old men’s club’ for breakfast on Tuesdays and watching westerns on the television.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday-March 31, 2022 with the Rev. George Chortos as celebrant.  Entombment will follow in the Washington Cemetery, Four Seasons Mausoleum.  Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 and the United States Army.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. James Parish, 119 W.
