Lynn Spoonamore Uram
Lynn Spoonamore Uram, SPHR, 60 of Eighty-Four, PA, formerly of Stanford, KY, died peacefully Thursday, January 6th, 2022 after a brief illness with COVID-19. Her family affectionately called her Zelda.
Lynn was born December 21, 1961, in Stanford, KY, and was the daughter of James and Lynda Spoonamore.
She attended Stanford Elementary, Lincoln County High School and the University of Kentucky (UK). She never missed a day of school or college. Lynn graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1984 with a degree in Business Administration and is a life member of UK Alumni since 1984. She was a member of UK Alumni Wildcat Society – a Life Sustaining charitable society; a student government officer; Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa - a collegiate leadership society. She was the first woman Chief Justice of the Student Government Association.
She spent her professional career working in human resources, including working at Valassis Inserts in Michigan. She went to Pittsburgh in the early 1990s. She was in HR at Hornes Department Store. She then became Senior Vice President of HR at Dick’s Clothing and Sporting Goods. She was there when the chain was moving from Binghamton, NY to Pittsburgh. A true highlight of that period was being part of the management team that took Dick’s public. She rang the opening bell on Wall Street, Wednesday, October 16, 2002, after retiring from this career.
Lynn was a much-loved, well-known breeder and exhibitor of shelties under the kennel name of Castlegate Shetland Sheepdogs. Although her first love was running the shelties in agility, she also competed in many other venues. Her shelties earned advanced titles and championships in conformation (American Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club), scent work, herding, rally, obedience, versatility, trick dog, farm dog, fast cat and canine good citizen.
Lynn’s shelties were versatile and accomplished but also beloved family members. If you were fortunate enough to own a Castlegate sheltie, you also became a member of the family.
An active member of the Three Rivers Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Pittsburgh Inc. and the Keystone Canine Training Club, she supported both clubs in many different capacities at their events and shows. The dog world has lost a truly kind and remarkable friend.
Lynn will long be remembered for her joy of life, her infectious laugh and her enthusiastic accolades when you were successful showing off your sheltie.
Lynn “Professed her faith in Jesus Christ at age 8 during a revival at Stanford Baptist Church”.
Lynn is survived by her husband of 27 years, Thomas Uram, mother, Lynda Spoonamore, father, James Spoonamore (Gloria) and her beloved sister, Julie Spoonamore of Lexington KY.
