Dr. Gerald F. Nies, known to friends as Jerry, passed away at home on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the age of 86. A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Dr. Nies attended Cathedral Preparatory School, followed by the University of Notre Dame and Thomas Jefferson Medical School. He completed his medical residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.  He and his family then moved to Washington, Pennsylvania where he practiced medicine until his retirement. The son of John and Anna Nies, Gerald was preceded in death by sister Rita Ann Nies, brothers John and Tom Nies and brother-in-law James Weiser.  Surviving siblings include James Nies, Joseph Nies, and Mary Jeanne Weiser.  Gerald is survived by his wife, Kathleen Nies and eight children: Jerry Nies (Mary Ellen), Mary Nies, Lisa Serrao (Rox), Kate Braden (Terry), Sue Zoeller (Lee), Amy Nies, Ellen Blume (Bill), Bill Nies (Laura), and fifteen grandchildren: Jane, Kathleen, Jerry III, Rocco, Dominic, Anne, Lee Jr., Andrew, Mary, Jonathan, Liam, Claire, Alessandra, Aidan, and Arianna.

Friends will be received on Sunday-September 23, 2018 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P.M. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Supervisor/Director, Susan Falvo Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director.  A prayer service will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Monday-September 24, 2018 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, Washington.  Interment will be private.  Condolences may be expressed at www.WarcoFalvoFuneralHome.com
